MANDATORY PARENT MEETING
All corps parents, please plan to attend a very important meeting on Wednesday, July 26th at 7:00 pm in Room 805. LOTS of updates and information to discuss for the upcoming season, including band camp, uniform fitting, Parent Preview, individual fundraisers, and more!
UNIFORM FITTING
Band uniform fitting day is Saturday, July 29th (color guard is different). More info coming soon, but in general seniors are first, followed by juniors. Volunteers break for lunch, then sophomores followed by freshman. It is helpful if parents attend with their student, since various fees/charges are due with the uniform fitting. Volunteers are needed and much appreciated, no experience necessary. Please sign up here.
MESSAGE FROM MR. PHILLIPS
Dear MMMC Parents:
This information is for the High School Band and High School Color Guard. The Middle School Guard has a different schedule. Mrs. Bookout will or has sent that schedule to those parents/students.
It’s time for band camp! We are excited to start our year. We have the opening piece of music set to 30 pages of drill and cannot wait to teach it all!
The most important piece of information you need to understand is that we are starting at 7:30 AM. We will be done at 4:00!
It is going to be hot and we need as much time outside as possible. Most of the band activities will be outside in the morning block. The afternoons will be inside doing sectionals. The color guard will be outside but if the weather is extreme, they will be in the shade or the gym (if possible) doing choreography. The bottom line is that each student must be ready to be outside:
Here is the schedule:
7:30 AM – Start time – outside with marching basics
9:15 – Break – students must provide their own snack
9:30 – Field rehearsal
12:00 – 1:15 – Lunch on their own – Students can bring their lunch, go home for lunch or go down the street and buy lunch from Carls Jr. etc… The boosters will be selling lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The students have been notified through the band app about ordering…
1:15 to 4:00 PM – Sectionals/music rehearsal/teaching choreography
Please make sure your child:
– Wears clothes to be OUTSIDE that includes TENNIS SHOES, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. We are outside and it’s hot!
– HAS A HUGE WATER JUG WITH THEIR NAME ON IT! Filled everyday!!!
– Has a snack to provide for themselves, lunch or money for lunch..make sure they eat breakfast each day (light on the milk products)…they will need energy…
– Comes to camp everyday. We are teaching drill (the opener has 30 pages), memorizing a ton of music/choreography and every student will be in it. When they are not there, THEY MISS A LOT! If they are missing or they have a doctor/dentist appointment, please let me know by simply texting me at 562-212-BAND (2263). The bottom line though, is that we need every student everyday.
Communication is key. We have a very busy week this week. Please come to our mandatory parent meeting on Wednesday, July 26th at 7:00 PM in the band room. We really need every parent and the meeting is filled with tons of information so we can be successful this fall. We are looking forward to seeing you! Please text me or call with ANY question you may have. There is a lot to understand.
We are in desperate need of at least 2 trailer drivers and a parent(s) to oversee band uniforms and their care. If you can help us, please text me! It’s easy and you will have fun!!
We will see your son/daughter on Monday, July 24th at 7:30 AM!
Here comes the Corps, the Mayfair HS Monsoon Marching Corps!
Thank you!
Mr. Philips
